PEPY trains rural Cambodian youth in professional & personal development starting at the high school level. We connect over 1000 remote students to higher education scholarships and mentors, city field trips, with weekly elective classes for goal setting/preparation. We have a higher education scholarship covering all basic costs in the city and a Learning Center with hard and soft skills courses, enabling youth to develop projects, find skilled employment, & be leaders in their community.
In the rural & remote communities of Cambodia, youth & their families are not exposed to the benefits of education. They might not be aware of what opportunities are possible or think that those opportunities are not obtainable for people with limited finances. Youth are pressured to drop out of school to find illegal work in Thailand or find construction jobs. These jobs are neither safe nor sustainable, serving as sporadic income opportunities for families and continuing the cycle of poverty.
PEPY works with youth, families, teachers, & local leaders in our target communities to change the perception that education does not lead to valuable opportunities. Our high school program brings in professional speakers, events, study tours, & goal setting classes. By matching students with scholarships, including our own, we build paths to higher education. Our Learning Center proves the value of education by preparing students in hard & soft skills & connecting them to skilled employment.
We envision a future where youth are supported to follow their dreams & have the resources to achieve them. Our alumni stay connected to us & their communities, attending workshops, speaking to students & parents, joining/starting other transformative initiatives, & even becoming local teachers. We have changed the mindset & behavior of communities, with a higher % of students going onto higher education every year & PEPY staff's tireless efforts to find students work relevant to their studies.
