Following up after attending the EcoPeace-led training in Kenya, Tijuana Waterkeeper reached across the border to connect with San Diego Coastkeeper. Acknowledging that water does not abide by political boundaries, both Waterkeeper groups recognize that by working together, they will be more effective. The two organizations are now working on a collaborative transboundary plastics monitoring initiative, with each employing a similar methodology to monitor for plastic pollution both on land, and via trawl samples in the Pacific Ocean. Both organizations are also exploring a similar approach for their water quality monitoring program.
Based on the success of our first training, Waterkeeper Alliance is excited to further share EcoPeace’s expertise with our entire movement: they are scheduled to host a “water security” training at Waterkeeper Alliance’s Global Conference this June in Miami.
