Peace School for Afghan Refugees and Host Communities

Report –Jan 2025- April 2025

Case Study:

Maira is student of the grade 3, she is the younger child among the 08 siblings. The mother of Maira is a domestic worker and works for in nearby houses. Her father is a Plumber and works on daily wages. Her mother wanted her children to study well in the school and also get some job after completing the studies. There is a culture of early marriages in the family and most of the girls got married in the age of 14-17 generally. Her father forced her mother for the early marriage so the daughters and told her mother that she along with her elder sister will not continue her studies in future. But her mother resists on the view of her husband and discusses it with the school staff to convince and pressurise the father to stop him from his plans. The principal herself met the father and convince him about the significance of girl child education and the country laws to stop child marriages. Now her father is convinced and the Amara and her sister are studying in the school. Amara wanted to become a doctor in future and wanted to continue her studies.

By embracing inclusive practices, the school continues to pave the way for a more equitable and compassionate learning community.

Mental Health and Psychosocial Support - (MHPSS) program

As part of the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Program, UN-IOM Karachi organized a comprehensive Psychological First Aid (PFA) session at Dr. Hanne Glodny Peace School. This initiative was designed to empower school staff and parents with the tools and understanding needed to provide immediate emotional support during times of stress, trauma, or crisis, creating a safer, more responsive, and nurturing environment for all students.

  

Science Activities: Learning by Doing

The science curriculum was enriched with interactive experiments and projects designed to make abstract concepts tangible.

Friday Fun Activities

Fridays at Dr. Hanne Glodny Peace School are marked by joyful and interactive sessions known as Friday Fun Activities. These activities are designed to promote experiential learning and stimulate curiosity in young learners.

A recent highlight was the activity in KG 1 class, where students engaged in abacus based learning for counting. Through hands-on use of abacuses and fun group tasks, children were introduced to basic counting and number recognition. The students were visibly happy and eager to participate, showing a growing interest in foundational math skills.
