Girl Child Rescue continues

By Beverly Gilbert Stone | Project Leader

The Pastoralist Girl Child faces many difficulties. Beading, Female Genital Mutilation, Early Forced Marriage, lack of education, to name a few.  The law states that these practices are to stop and the girl child is to receive an education. Josephine Kulea and Expanding Opportunities are working to educate members of the community, and build a rescue center for the girls in the Isiolo area.  The girls being rescued at this time are placed in orphanages or boarding schools.  Though these places offer immediate safe havens, they are unable to meet the unique needs of this population.  They are not orphans, they may be pregnant, they do have families, schools have month long holidays when children are to return home.

10 acres of land has been donated for this purpose. The need is great and immediate.

Please help us help these girls.
