The Lomokamar Borehole Project is an urgent initiative to address the severe water crisis in Lomokamar village, located in southern Turkana County, Kenya. This project aims to secure reliable access to clean and safe water through the drilling of a borehole, offering a sustainable solution to contamination challenges affecting traditional water sources.
Lomokamar village is home to 600 residents, who have historically relied on traditional water sources for their daily needs. However, contamination from a nearby hazardous waste transfer station operated by Tullow Oil has compromised these sources, rendering them unsafe for human and livestock consumption. During the rainy season, the contamination escalates, exacerbating the water crisis. The community currently depends on insufficient rationed water supplies from Tullow Oil, often leaving them without access to water for as long as seven days. This dire situation has significantly impacted health, well-being, and productivity, with women, children, and livestock bearing the brunt of the crisis.
The Lomokamar Borehole Project seeks a total funding of $64,350. However, to date, only $6 has been raised, leaving a remaining balance of $64,344. With one donor and no monthly contributors, the fundraising efforts have fallen considerably short, highlighting the need for enhanced strategies to attract support and achieve the project's goals.
I am reaching out to share an urgent opportunity to make a life-changing impact on the lives of 600 villagers in Lomokamar, southern Turkana County, Kenya.
Despite the transformative potential of this project, we are still far from our goal. Out of the $64,350 needed to make this vision a reality, we have only raised $6. The time to act is now, and your support can make all the difference.
Your generosity could be the catalyst for change. Whether it’s a one-time donation or a commitment to give monthly, every contribution brings Lomokamar closer to a sustainable future. We are also committed to transparency, ensuring that you are updated every step of the way on the progress and impact of your contribution.
Please consider joining us in this vital effort to restore hope and dignity to the people of Lomokamar. Together, we can turn their struggle into a story of resilience, health, and opportunity.
