Pain is no fun; Pain relief is essential

By Chuck Russell | Communications

A simple tool in use by palliative care providers in India, and other countries, allows doctors and nurses to help patients with their pain.

A graphic pain chart, such as the one being used by Karthik, allows children to show how they are feeling. It's especially useful when a child may not be able to verbalize their pain level. If pain increases or decreases, pain medication ranging from something as simple as acetaminophen (Paracetamol) to stronger pain medication like morphine can be adjusted.

Pain relief is essential. For children living with cancer, and other life-limiting illnesses, pain can become debilitating. Even before a child may have a full diagnosis, during treatment or if treatment is no longer an option pain relief can greatly improve quality of life.

Pointing to a smiley face on a simple pain chart means better hours or days without pain. And your support of our programs can help bring those smiles.

From all of us at Two Worlds Cancer Collaboration, thank you for your support!
