Parkinson Patients Support Organization – Ethiopia (PPSO-E) drug support

The life of  Parkinson patients  is  attached  with Parkinson medicine.  If patients didn’t take drug ,the face unbearable Parkinson  Motor  (tremor,  slow movement , rigidity    balance problems)  and several  non  motor Symptoms of  disease. In addition as they  don’t have energy to exercises ,  the  disease progress into the higher  level.

Patients interrupted taking medicine mainly because lack of money to purchase.  Parkinson patients  did not generate income,  so for their medical  treatment  and  drug purchased they depended on  their  care giver income. However  the care giver can not  involve  in income generating work  as the patient needs full attention .  If there is a shortage  of money,  patients drug   is compromised  to food .  Realizing   the challenges of the Parkinson  patents ,  PPSO-E   started a drug  support   for poor  Parkinson patients.

W/ro  (Ms in our language) Yetayeash  is  PPSO-E’s  drug  beneficiary. She said  before I become  drug  beneficiary .  I was not follow the doctor’s  advice because I had no enough  medicine . I was taking half of what  the Doctor prescribed,  as I find taking  half of the drug instead  of taking  full dose one day  and non in other day. But now  thanks to PPSO-E , I am taking  medicine according to prescriptions.  Thus I got the weapon  to fight back Parkinson

With the fund obtained  from GlobalGiving  Parkinson Patients Support Organization - Ethiopia (PPSO-E) helped poor Parkinson Patients to get medicine to treat  their disease.  Parkinson disease is a progressive and  degenerative disease of the central nervous system. Parkinson  disease currently has no cure, but there are medicines that control different Parkinson  symptoms common drugs of PD are Levedopa and carbidopa. This is the main drug used in Ethiopia. This drug is controlling the symptoms of Parkinson symptoms.  Although the drug is  available in Ethiopia because of shortage of money poor Parkinson patient can not purchased the needed amount of drug. Patients  either using below dosage or interruption of using medicine until they got money. Interruption of medicine can cause patients to experience worsening of symptoms such as tremors  , rigidity loss of balance, confession, difficult  to communicate etc.  By helping patients to have drug , PPSO-E secure the quality of life of the poor Parkinson patients;  below  is the testimony  one of our drug   benefices. Ato wonderad I am a Parkinson patient for 4 years and using  a Parkinson medicine. But because of money problem ,  I didn’t use according to   prescription. I  always complained on the effectiveness of the medicine. After PPSO- E  help me  I started to take the medicine according to the advice  of the Doctor’s  prescription my health improved and my life improved as well.
