Greetings from Hospice Africa Uganda. This is a brief progress report on HAU highlighting achievements in this quarter March 2023 to August 2023.
In this quarter, we had 442 new patients. About 10% of the new patients were identified in the community while the remaining 90% were referred to HAU from the hospitals. In the same quarter, we had 5811 patient encounters on home based care, hospital visits and community outreach clinics. There was an increase of 20% from patient encounters realised in the previous quarter.
In Kampala we identified people in need of Palliative Care services that are living in the down town (slum) areas of Kampala city i.e. Lukuli, Namuwongo-Kisugu & Katanga near Mulago. The target was to find patients that are not in position to leave their homes and come for care. This was done together with the Community Volunteer Workers (CVWs).
Two (2) outreach clinics were started – in Namuwongo based at Access Health Services and in Katanga at the local Catholic Parish Church – both generously provided at no cost to HAU. About 36 patients were enrolled on the HAU program.
Your involvement holds immense significance in facilitating these achievements. Through your generous donation, an individual in Uganda, Africa, battling a severe illness, can access vital pain-relieving treatment completely free of cost. Your actions are truly heroic, and we wholeheartedly express our gratitude for your benevolence.
To cater for the increasing demand for medical aid to patients with life-threatening illnesses in Uganda, we require additional monthly donors. Kindly spread the word among your colleagues, friends, and family, encouraging them to become heroes by contributing to this noble cause.
