Bringing palliative care closer to communities

It is our delight to share with you this very brief report.

This fundraiser was inspired by a great need to extend Palliative care to where the patient is and reduce the suffering the patient would experience coming to the Hospice Africa Uganda (HAU) office or to a health facility / hospital. This model works very well for the low and middle income setting where access to healthcare is a challenge and yet a bigger difficulty when the patient is very sick and at end of life. This is why at Hospice Africa Uganda, in all our sites in Mbarara, Hoima and Kampala, we strive to ensure that as much as possible, we should take our services closer to the people that need them.

At Little Hospice Hoima, we had 206 patient encounters in the period January - March 2022 as follows; 57 encounters in January, 74 encounters in February and 75 encounters in March 2022.  

At Mobile Hospice Mbarara, we had 202 patient encounters in the period January - March 2022 as follows; 52 encounters in January, 71 encounters in February and 79 encounters in March 2022.  

At Hospice Kampala, we had 298 patient encounters in the period January - March 2022 as follows; 75 encounters in January, 107 encounters in February and 116 encounters in March 2022.  

We have collected USD 378 so far for this project and we appreciate all the donors. Thank you for standing with us. We would like to do more and we are counting on you to help us do that. 

We pledge to help every one that needs Palliatve care because they matter regardless. Even to the last moment of their lives, in whatever state they are, people with cancer and other life limiting illnesses should experience peace and comfort. It is a joy to know that you have partnered with us in this.
