Summary

Pilgrims in Bethlehem brought COVID-19 to Palestine. As of Mar. 23rd, there are 59 known cases, including 2 in Gaza. Palestinians immediately implemented social distancing to buy time, closing all schools and religious sites in the W. Bank & Gaza. Rebuilding Alliance is successfully sending aid to our Palestinian Non-Governmental Org (NGO) partners. Please help to head-off disaster by delivering protective clothing and ICU equipment to NGO hospitals, hand sanitizer and food to families at-risk.

Challenge

The U.S. Gov's cutback of all funding for medical care in Palestine has devastating consequences now. In Gaza, the health sector is in collapse. In the West Bank, capacity is severely strained. In Bethlehem, exposure may be very high, as the infected pilgrims were contagious while on tour. COVID-19 is now in Gaza with 2 positive cases, but significant exposure before they were quarantined. Test kits ran short, but Gaza factories are now beginning to make masks & protection suits for hospitals.

Solution

Our Palestinian NonGovernmental Org partners need your help to provide protection suits to health care workers in Gaza and the West Bank, and get ICU equipment to NGO hospitals incl. ventilators. In Bethlehem, Holy Land Trust is delivering food, hand sanitizer to people in quarantine. In Gaza, the Women's Program Center, Youth Vision, Al Basma Club for the Disabled, and Al Amal Society are providing hygiene kits, food to families. We will buy masks, gloves, protect. suits from Gaza factories.

Long-Term Impact

According toT. Pueyo, 'Countries that act fast reduce the number of deaths at least by 10x. About 20% of cases will require hospitalization, 5% of cases will need Intensive Care Unit (ICU), & around 1% will need intensive help on ventilators or extra-corporeal oxygenation.' Social isolation IS slowing Palestine's outbreak - your donation will help NGO hospitals update their supplies & ICUs, as Gaza factories start production making protective gear for Gaza and the region, opening the blockade.
