Humanitarian Assistance in context with Build Back Better Pakistan
Pakistan experienced an unprecedented disaster as a result of a combination of riverine, urban, and flash flooding caused by torrential rains. The devastating flood caused by heavy rains hit Pakistan in June-October 2022. As reflected by figures from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) are estimated to have affected over 33 million people or one out of every seven people, have been affected by the floods including nearly 8 million displaced.
FACES Pakistan made efforts through humanitarian assistance during emergency response, and early recovery while currently in the rehabilitation phase. Following are the areas where FACES Pakistan doing efforts:
The deluge submerged us in the grave psychologically
Alia is a widow her husband’s name was Habib (late). Habib was a fisherman who died during the flood in 2022. Alia has three kids two sons Faheem (13 years old and in need of an eye operation that requires more than half a million cost) and Zaman (11 years old) but both are special kids (Pre Natal Causes) and a daughter Faiza (5 years old). The family already facing downheartedness because poverty persists due to many reasons and after the death of Alia’s husband poverty further increased because they have no such source of income. FACES Pakistan’s team visited the house and recognize the vulnerability and tried to help the marginalized family. At the time of the visit, Alia said “The deluge submerged us. In the grave psychologically” and Alia has no words to say except the tears in her eyes.
Her house was destroyed due to the flood in 2022 all the household items were also shattered. FACES Pakistan’s team tried to support the family as much as they can and now reconstructed her house with one core room and toilet.
