Dear Friends, Supporters, and Cheerleaders,
Thanks to your generous support, we were able to reach 159 young girls at Nyabione Primary School in Nyamira during the celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child on October 11, 2024. The event aimed to uplift the self-esteem of girls and promote gender equality and equity, addressing the societal norms that often leave girls marginalized and oppressed.
The HFAW team marked the day by donating pants and soap to all the girls, focusing on feminine hygiene and reducing early teenage pregnancies. Many girls shared how poverty makes it challenging for their parents to provide them with basic necessities like extra underwear. This often pushes them to seek alternatives, including engaging in risky behavior to meet their needs. By providing these essentials, we hoped to mitigate such vulnerabilities and empower the girls to make safer choices.
The theme for this year’s celebration, "Girls' Vision for the Future, "focused on amplifying girls’ voices and transforming their visions into action. Discussions during the event centered on areas such as education, healthcare, leadership opportunities, and public participation—all critical to achieving gender equity.
One of the participants shared, Sometimes, it feels like no one cares about our struggles. This support means a lot to us and gives us hope for a better future. Another added, "Now I can go to school confidently without worrying about hygiene or judgment. Thank you for thinking about us."
HFAW’s mission aligns closely with the objectives of the International Day of the Girl Child. As an organization, we are dedicated to mentoring girls for transformation, ensuring they achieve their goals and realize their full potential. The school fraternity was deeply appreciative of our efforts and expressed gratitude for the impactful initiative.
Your continued support enables us to reach more girls and create lasting change in their lives. We are deeply grateful to each of you for choosing to stand with us and advocate for a better future for girls. Please share this message with your friends and networks to inspire even more support for this cause.
With gratitude,
Sincerely,
Doris, Program Director.
