At 9 am, a team of four from our partner, Dwona Initiative, was brimming with energy as they prepared to engage with the children at five new partner schools in Nwoya and Kampala districts. These schools included Mulago School for the Deaf in Kampala, Lalar Primary School, Alero Primary School, Wii-Anaka Primary School, and Got-apwoyo Primary School in Nwoya district.
Each school was buzzing with excitement, ready to tackle menstrual injustices in their communities. The day began at Mulago School for the Deaf in Kampala, where the team found the children eagerly awaiting the day’s activities. The senior woman welcomed them under a shelter shed in the school’s compound. Led by Lizza Marie Kawooya, the Dwona team introduced themselves along with their partners, Stanbic Bank Uganda, specifically the team from the Mulago bank branch.
The sessions kicked off with engaging games aimed at educating the children about the female reproductive system, various menstrual cycles, and menstrual hygiene. One such game, “Bloody Bingo,” involved guessing the meaning of menstrual terms using pictures placed on a board.
At the conclusion of the session, 50 girls received support in the form of a “fempack,” which contained reusable sanitary pads designed to last for two years, along with a menstrual calendar. The team then replicated these activities at the other new partner schools in Nwoya district, ultimately reaching over 600 girls across the five schools.
We extend our sincere gratitude for your support of this program and kindly ask for donations of $10 or more to continue providing these girls with the necessary resources to stay in school without the worry of inadequate period products. Thank you for your unwavering support!
