How much does it cost to go out for lunch? About $15? Now, if I told you that $15 could help someone in Vietnam gain access to a quality education, what would you say? This summer, LIN is focusing on helping marginalized people overcome barriers to education but we need your help. Pack your lunch at least once and donate the savings to our Narrow the Gap Community Fund. 100% of your donations will be invested in projects, you will chose, that improve access to education in Ho Chi Minh City!
As important as we all know that education is, it has never been equally accessible to all people in Vietnam. Unmet needs are most common among undocumented migrants, people with disabilities, ethnic minorities, urban poor, people affected with HIV/AIDs and other groups who may lack the paperwork required to enroll in public schools, who may not enter public schools due to inadequate facilities, inappropriate curriculum, inability to pay school fees, discrimination or other reasons.
LIN's Narrow the Gap Community Fund gathers people with a shared vision to pool their resources and invest those resources into projects that tackle the root causes of challenges we are facing in our community. Until August 23, 2014, all contributions to the Fund will be allocated to projects that help marginalized Vietnamese overcome barriers to a quality education. Funded projects will be selected by the community through a four-step process that will engage donors and community members.
Narrow the Gap Community Fund pools resources so local nonprofits can tackle the core issues that keep marginalized groups from achieving their true potential. More importantly, the Fund provides training for nonprofit staff so they can deliver more effective services. Finally, the Fund educates and engages the community, ensuring sustainability of necessary support for these direct services.
