OSCASI: 65 years empowering communities in Petare

En OSCASI, nuestro compromiso con la comunidad de Petare, y en especial con nuestros niños de las Escuelas Alternativas, se mantiene firme y resiliente. A pesar de las adversidades y obstáculos, seguimos enfocados en nuestros objetivos, desarrollando soluciones que nos permitan continuar brindando educación y apoyo integral a nuestros estudiantes.

Durante el mes de septiembre, nos dedicamos a preparar el inicio del año escolar con una serie de talleres y convivencias dirigidos a profesores y coordinadores de las Escuelas Alternativas. Estos espacios de formación y encuentro permitieron consolidar a nuestro equipo y establecer el cronograma de actividades y el programa educativo para el periodo 2024-2025.

En paralelo, comenzamos una serie de reuniones para desarrollar el plan estratégico de OSCASI. Este esfuerzo tiene como fin fortalecer las bases que le den estructura y sustentabilidad a la organización, asegurando que nuestros procesos sean eficientes y alineados con nuestra misión de brindar educación y apoyo integral en Petare.

Iniciamos oficialmente el ciclo escolar en la primera semana de octubre, y desde entonces hemos llevado a cabo actividades clave para el desarrollo y bienestar de nuestros estudiantes. El 24 de octubre, con el valioso apoyo de Rotary Chaco, hicimos entrega de los útiles escolares a todos los alumnos de ambas escuelas. Esta entrega representa un paso esencial para asegurar que nuestros estudiantes cuenten con los recursos necesarios para su aprendizaje.

El 28 de octubre realizamos nuestra primera jornada de triaje odontológico, en la cual se evaluó el estado de la salud bucal de los nuevos estudiantes. Un total de 46 estudiantes fueron atendidos; los resultados mostraron que el 25% requiere tratamiento quirúrgico y el 40% necesita atención para restauraciones. Además, en esta jornada contamos con la participación de una especialista en otorrinolaringología, quien evaluó las necesidades de salud adicionales de nuestros alumnos.

Para el mes de noviembre, tenemos programada una jornada de salud integral, que incluye la toma de muestras de sangre para el perfil 20, así como evaluaciones de peso, altura y exámenes por pediatras para asegurar el bienestar general de nuestros estudiantes. Esta actividad es fundamental para ofrecer atención preventiva y detectar posibles problemas de salud tempranamente.

At OSCASI, our commitment to the Petare community, and especially to the children in our Alternative Schools, remains strong and resilient. Despite challenges and obstacles, we remain focused on our goals, developing solutions that allow us to continue providing education and comprehensive support to our students.

During September, we dedicated ourselves to preparing for the start of the school year with a series of workshops and gatherings for teachers and coordinators in our Alternative Schools. These training and bonding spaces strengthened our team and allowed us to establish the activity schedule and educational program for the 2024-2025 period.

At the same time, we began a series of meetings to develop OSCASI’s strategic plan. This effort aims to strengthen the foundations that provide structure and sustainability to the organization, ensuring that our processes are efficient and aligned with our mission to provide education and comprehensive support in Petare.

We officially started the school year in the first week of October, and since then we have carried out key activities for the development and well-being of our students. On October 24, with valuable support from Rotary Chaco, we provided school supplies to all students in both schools. This distribution represents an essential step in ensuring that our students have the resources they need for learning.

On October 28, we held our first dental screening day, where the oral health of new students was evaluated. A total of 46 students were seen; results showed that 25% require surgical treatment, and 40% need attention for restorations. Additionally, we were joined by an ENT specialist who assessed the students’ additional health needs.

For November, we have scheduled a comprehensive health day, which includes blood sampling for a full panel, as well as evaluations of weight, height, and exams by pediatricians to ensure the general well-being of our students. This activity is essential to provide preventive care and to detect potential health issues early.

Para el  inicio del año escolar 2023-2024 las voluntarias de OSCASI, junto con las directoras de las escuelas alternativas y la coordinación pedagógica, se reunieron para organizar las actividades del año. Este esfuerzo conjunto aseguró que las actividades propuestas por los diferentes voluntariados estuvieran perfectamente alineadas con el cronograma académico.

El éxito del voluntariado de OSCASI se refleja en el impacto positivo que ha tenido en nuestros niños, reforzando áreas esenciales para su desarrollo y aprendizaje.

El Voluntariado de Mamás Lectoras ha sido fundamental para mejorar las habilidades de lectura y escritura de los alumnos que requieren reforzamiento. Gracias a la dedicación de las voluntarias, muchos niños han logrado avances significativos, fortaleciendo su confianza y competencias lingüísticas.

Las actividades sensoriales y manualidades organizadas por el Voluntariado de Arte han proporcionado a los alumnos un valioso espacio de encuentro y aprendizaje a través del arte. Estas actividades no solo han fomentado la creatividad, sino que también han sido una herramienta eficaz para el desarrollo emocional y social de los niño

Cerramos el año escolar con un voluntariado más unido y comprometido que nunca, cada vez más fortalecido y equipado con herramientas y organización para ofrecer experiencias enriquecedoras en diferentes áreas. El crecimiento y la consolidación del equipo de voluntarios han sido clave para el éxito alcanzado este año.

Para culminar el año, el voluntariado se reunió para compartir experiencias, evaluar las actividades realizadas y identificar oportunidades de mejora. Este ejercicio de reflexión y análisis no solo celebró los logros obtenidos, sino que también estableció las bases para continuar contribuyendo a la formación integral de los alumnos de OSCASI en los años venideros.

En resumen, el voluntariado de OSCASI ha demostrado ser una fuerza vital en el desarrollo educativo y emocional de nuestros niños, y su éxito durante el año escolar 2023-2024 es testimonio del compromiso y la dedicación de todas las personas involucradas.

At the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year, the OSCASI volunteers, along with the directors of the alternative schools and the pedagogical coordination team, met to organize the year's activities. This joint effort ensured that the activities proposed by the different volunteer groups were perfectly aligned with the academic schedule.

The success of OSCASI's volunteer program is reflected in the positive impact it has had on our children, reinforcing essential areas for their development and learning.

The Mamás Lectoras Volunteer Program has been fundamental in improving the reading and writing skills of students who need reinforcement. Thanks to the dedication of the volunteers, many children have made significant progress, strengthening their confidence and language competencies.

The sensory activities and crafts organized by the Art Volunteer Program have provided students with a valuable space for encounter and learning through art. These activities have not only fostered creativity but have also been an effective tool for the emotional and social development of the children.

We close the school year with a more united and committed volunteer team than ever, increasingly strengthened and equipped with tools and organization to offer enriching experiences in different areas. The growth and consolidation of the volunteer team have been key to the success achieved this year.

To conclude the year, the volunteers gathered to share experiences, evaluate the activities carried out, and identify opportunities for improvement. This exercise of reflection and analysis not only celebrated the achievements obtained but also laid the foundation for continuing to contribute to the comprehensive education of OSCASI students in the years to come.
