Orkeeswa School students have started the 2019 year off with some strong momentum. The school received national exam results for 8th and 10th graders in February, and the results were more than impressive! Our most recent 8th and 10th grade national exam results include several accomplishments for our talented scholars, including:
We also celebrated International Women's Day in March with our theme #BalanceforBetter and a renewed focus on Orkeeswa School's commitment to ensuring a gender balance in and out of the classroom, as well as beyond graduation. With nearly all of our girls at risk of being forced into arranged marriages directly out of primary school, Orkeeswa School works with girls and families to empower young women to complete secondary school and become young leaders in their community.
The Orkeeswa School Scholarship Fund makes all of this possible! With 69 students still in need of Scholarship support, our Global Giving Project for the Orkeeswa School Scholarship Fund is more vital than ever. Thank you to those who are contributing to this fund, and please spread the word to others who may be interested in joining our network of supporters.
The Orkeeswa School Scholarship Fund supports students like Nosim, an 11th grade girl who is incredibly sweet, hard-working and dedicated to her education. Nosim's family works on their small subsistence farm and do not have the means to send their five children to secondary school. Without Orkeeswa School, Nosim would not have had the chance to continue her education beyond primary school, and it is support from people like you that has helped change this reality for her.
"I am a leader because I am cooperative, respectful, and responsible. I am always ready to acknowledge my weaknesses because being humble will help you to help others. I have been spending every week mentoring our young 6th graders at school, and that has helped me to become an even stronger leader by mentoring younger kids and helping them to pass through challenges." - Nosim, 11th grade
Thank you for your support!
