The Orkeeswa School Scholarship Fund provides the necessary resources to provide high quality, affordable education to the students of Orkeeswa School. By offering our students a diverse array of programs, opportunities and resources, we are developing a generation of well-rounded and inspired leaders in Orkeeswa Village, who are equipped and motivated to make a positive impact on their communities. Help us fund 10 students who are in need of scholarship support!
Orkeeswa School operates in an under-served Maasai community in northern Tanzania on land donated by local leaders. Orkeeswa School is the only affordable secondary school within its catchment area, which consists of four Maasai villages. Roughly 78% of families in these communities live below the poverty line of less than $1.25 / day. These communities face serious challenges when it comes to income, health care, land and food security, access to water, and gender equality.
We believe that education is the first and most necessary step toward sustainable community development. We are focused on preparing our students to become leaders in their communities, equipped to take on these challenges now and in the future.
Orkeeswa School currently supports over 360 students and alumni. These students are in turn educating their family members, bringing positive change to their communities, and tackling the systemic challenges that have faced their communities for decades. The lasting impact is a new generation of visionary leaders, innovators, and problem solvers who have a thorough understanding of and commitment to their own culture, community and and local politics.
