Vocational Guidance for Adolescents in Medellin

One of the most inspiring moments from the last few months came during the workshop “The Landscape of My Purpose.” As part of the activity, participants were invited to imagine their future and reflect on the goals they wanted to achieve. For many adolescents, this was the first time they had been asked to pause and think deeply about their dreams and the path they wanted to follow.

One young participant shared that before joining Brújula, he rarely thought beyond the challenges of the present. During the session, he created a visual representation of his future, placing education, family, and a professional career at the center of his aspirations. As he presented his work to the group, he spoke with a level of confidence that surprised even his teachers. What began as a simple exercise became an opportunity for him to recognize his own potential and realize that his goals were within reach.

Stories like this remind us that Brújula is about much more than delivering workshops. Through activities such as “The Art of Communicating,” “The Gear System,” and “The Landscape of My Purpose,” adolescents are developing essential life skills, strengthening relationships with their peers, and discovering new ways to understand themselves and their future.

Today, 171 adolescents continue to participate actively in the program. Their openness, enthusiasm, and willingness to engage have created strong and supportive groups where trust can flourish. In these safe spaces, young people are finding their voices, building confidence, and learning that they are valuable contributors to their communities.
