The original design of this project was to use glass for walling and jalousy for windows. After a review of the entire design, the beneficiary of this project who are local enterpisers of the community opted for a bamboo material for the following reasons:
1). bamboo grows in the locality where the structure is being built making it very accessible and affordable.
2). the bamboo can be designed easily in such a way that it adds to the aesthetics of the structure.
3). the bamboo is very easy to install because it is light, easy to transport and easy to mount which saves time and cost.
4). the bamboo is durable and water resistant making this material a greater strength to weight ratio than steel.
5). the bamboo is eco-friendly and adds oxygen to the environment.
6). the bamboo is sustainable and grows in most parts of the world and in the locality in particular
7). the bamboo's physical characteristic is versatile and is a perfect material which can adapt to different functions and design.
More importantly, the bamboo wall is very capable in protecting the beneficiaries of this project in protecting their daily production and finished product from the elements, theft and privacy included.
