The student clubs are some of CasaSito's key tools for helping our students grow and learn. Each CasaSito student participates in at least 3 clubs a year, which include: debate, theater of the oppressed, English, math, science, accounting, art, music, dance, reading, and sports. Clubs meet weekly and are led by local professionals, long-term volunteers, or paid teachers.
Schools in Guatemala usually lack important extra-curricular activities like those in more developed countries, and the teachers often fail to provide extra tutoring help. In most cases in Guatemala, students are reliant on educated family members for help or are left to fend for themselves. Our clubs have been given generous support by the local community and professional volunteers. But there are other costs that we need to cover through donations and grants.
Some clubs offer academic reinforcement, others develop life skills or introduce them to a new world, but all provide a supportive environment in which to interact with their peers. Clubs are led by professional volunteers or paid teachers. The clubs are part of our holistic solution which includes psychological support and personal development workshops designed for both students and their families.
The CasaSito club program keeps our students motivated to learn, stay in school, and eventually graduate with personal and professional skills that will improve their well-being as well as their job prospects. The goal of our clubs is to enforce knowledge and open doors to discoveries for our students.
