In the small rural community of Las Parcelas, Escuapa, Honduras, 49 families,117 people, face daily hardship due to a lack of access to clean water, safe sanitation, and basic hygiene facilities. The entire village depends on a single, gravity-fed water source that is not safe to drink. Families must choose between consuming contaminated water, putting their health and safety at risk. The situation is especially dire for the school of 33 students that need clean water and a safe sanitation.
Improve water quality Provide clean water and sanitation facilities in all 49 homes. Build school bathroom and handwashing facilities for 33 students and their teacher to prevent water born illness. Provide hygiene and menstrual health education for teachers and students Train families on healthy water, sanitation, and hygiene practices Establish community monitoring and support for sustainability
This project will create lasting change for the 49 families and 33 schoolchildren of Las Parcelas by addressing the root causes of waterborne illness, poor hygiene, and school absenteeism. Access to clean water and sanitation is more than a basic n a foundation for long-term health, education, and economic opportunity. With safe water in every home, families will experience a reduction in preventable diseases such as diarrhea, parasites, and skin infections.
