The project has reached its budget goal. The money is now available to do the work.
We approached the water for life company to drill and install a Hand Pump Water Well in Onura village. The drilling truck came but cannot make to the site due to heavy rain this year that made the road nearly impossible to use. The truck tried to Onura but got stuck four times on the way. The chief of Omilling is organizing the villagers to repair certain bad places on the road, Alice said who was in Onura with a guest visiting Omilling from our new partner.
The two organizations then re-structured the plan to drill in February 2014 when it stops raining, and save for big truck use Omilling's bush road. We are appealing to our donors to be patient until February, but in case this happens before you will be informed.

What is next? A final hand water pump will be drilled and installed this month or next. A Water drilling firm is coming from Uganda to do the work since we have secured the funding.

The project is in the final phase. We have approached some water Drilling Firms, but to our dismay the prices went up three year ago by $1000. Hope Ofiriha cannot make arrangement drill a Water Well. First we have to secure the additional amount needed - and then wrap up the project. The fund donated is in the restricted fund - bank account.
We are requesting our donors to continue their support to Hope Ofiriha to give the vulnerable villagers in ONURA Clean Drinking Water soon.

The budget goal is reached and we are in the final stages to wrap up this project. We have approached three Water companies to figure out how much it costs to drill water well, and then make a decision. We will report soon after the final phase is implemented.
The beneficiaries in Onura are very happy for the two Water Hand-pumps well you gave Onura. Women said – your help is life time because they will not trek 10km to and 10km to collect water from dirty pond for drinking! Girls said – this is the chance to be at school and study for the future! – Our Moms cannot now pull us out of classrooms to fetch water! We are liberated for life!
While our communities had just started to adjust from the shocks and devastation of prolonged civil war, they were yet met by airstrikes and ground assaults launched against South Sudan in the bordering states by Sudan armed forces and militant allies. This brought more unnecessary displacement, vulnerability, anguish and human suffering.
Life in the South Sudan – Sudan bordering states became unbearable as cost of living steadily skyrocketed. While two nations have signed a deal to promote peaceful coexistence, the impact of recent conflict include Abyei has caused humanitarian needs to the affected people.
We therefore, request our partners to continue their support to Hope Ofiriha and more importantly to the needy and vulnerable groups in the communities. We look forward to working with all of you in 2013.

Give a village Drinking Water in South Sudan!
This project has received a total of $10,597. Only $1,228- is needed to reach a budget goal of $11,827. To ensure the on-going success of the implementation, the grant was split into two parts. The trustees approved, and released $5,750-, to implement part one.
The water pump well is installed at Mairo school yard. This provided clean drinking water to 502 out of 2018 students daily for the last three months since completion, and it has also increased school enrollment among girls, and the daily attendance goes to 875 pupils. Water is a basic human right!
The project could not be started soon after funds were received due to these reasons:
Lesson Learned:
Funds were sent in small amount each month from our donors. We kept these funds in a restrict fund- bank account until it accumulates to $5,750 (part–one).
This created frustration among some of the beneficiaries: some don’t understand why money is sent in small amount: others believed USA is a rich nation in the world - and is a piece of cake for an American to fund Onura water project – and they don’t see why the cause is not funded at once. This project will be phased out by end of 2012 or before when the budget goal is reached.
