When a mother has nothing left to cook, her child may go to bed hungry. Through One-Pound Food Support, we will provide up to 200 freshly prepared meals a day, as funding allows, to children and families facing hunger in low-income communities. Each meal will be packed hygienically, include clean drinking water, and be delivered by volunteers. Families facing repeated hunger may also be connected to skills training and small-business support so they can move beyond the next meal.
In many of the low-income communities in Pakistan, many children and struggling families face nights with little or no food. A mother may skip her own meal so her child can eat, while a daily-wage worker may return home with no earnings and nothing to cook. Hunger is not an abstract problem for these families-it is an empty plate, a restless night, and the fear of not knowing where tomorrow's meal will come from. Imagine the struggle of little children, their empty stomachs. They need help.
In the beginning, we will provide up to 200 freshly prepared meals a day, as funding allows, packed in clean food boxes and delivered by volunteers. Donations will help cover food, cooking, packaging, and essential delivery costs. Each meal will include a small bottle of clean drinking water. Families facing repeated hunger may also be connected to our livelihood and small-business support, helping them move from emergency food aid toward earning enough to feed themselves.
A meal can end hunger for one night; a livelihood can change what happens next. This project provides immediate food relief while helping us identify families trapped in repeated hunger. Where appropriate, we connect them to skills training and small-business support so they can build income and rely less on charity. Through our other livelihood projects, a family can start a small income-generating business with support from as little as $200 and work toward lasting self-reliance.
