Introduction

Following our previous update on the development of the Fruit Tree Education Book (shared on November 27, 2025), this report summarizes the progress made during the past three months. The project has moved beyond early drafting into deeper content development, practical field validation, and community engagement.

During this phase, our work focused on completing major sections of the manuscript, reviewing the technical content, documenting field experiences from nursery activities, and collecting feedback from schools and community groups. These efforts have helped strengthen the educational quality and practical usefulness of the book, ensuring that it can serve farmers, students, and households effectively.

Key Progress Achieved1. Completion of Fruit Tree Species Profiles

A major milestone during this reporting period has been the near completion of detailed species profiles for several important fruit trees commonly grown in our communities.

  • Mango
  • Orange
  • Avocado
  • Guava
  • Jackfruit
  • Papaya

Each species profile now includes:

  • Botanical identification and commonly used local names
  • Description of seed characteristics
  • Seed preparation and germination guidelines
  • Nursery management practices
  • Proper transplanting techniques
  • Growth patterns and maintenance practices
  • Nutritional and economic benefits
  • Common challenges and recommended solutions

This structure ensures that the book remains practical and easy to use for farmers, schools, and households interested in successfully growing fruit trees.

2. Pilot Testing with Schools and Community Groups

Selected sections of the manuscript were tested with two schools and one village community group. This pilot phase provided valuable feedback on how easily the content could be understood and applied.

  • Strong appreciation for the simple language and locally relevant examples
  • Recommendation to include more illustrations for younger learners
  • Suggestion to include a troubleshooting section for common seedling failures
  • Request for short summaries translated into local languages

The feedback collected during this phase has guided improvements in the clarity of technical explanations and helped ensure the material is accessible to audiences with different literacy levels.

3. Integration with Ongoing Nursery Activities

The development of the book has remained closely connected to ongoing nursery operations within the One Million Tree Project. Practical lessons learned in the field have been incorporated into the manuscript.

  • Tracking germination success rates to validate recommended practices
  • Integrating lessons from transplanting activities into the maintenance section
  • Documenting community experiences with pest management

This approach ensures that the book reflects real field experience rather than theoretical guidance alone.

Challenges Encountered

  • Professional editing and layout design are still required before printing.
  • Funding is needed to support graphic design, bulk printing, and distribution.
  • Translation and simplification are necessary to reach wider rural audiences.
  • Conduct a final technical review and editing of the manuscript
  • Complete professional design and formatting for printing
  • Develop a simplified summary booklet for lower literacy communities
  • Begin fundraising efforts to support printing and distribution
  • Organize the official launch alongside a community tree planting event
  • Print and distribute the first batch to pilot schools and partner communities
  • Improved fruit tree survival rates through better planting and care knowledge
  • Strengthened environmental education within schools
  • Improved household nutrition and food security
  • Long-term sustainability of the One Million Tree Project
  • A permanent educational resource for future generations

Next Steps (March – May 2026)Anticipated ImpactComment from the Project Coordinator

“This follow-up phase confirms that the Fruit Tree Education Book is much more than a publication. It is becoming a powerful tool for community transformation. By sharing practical knowledge, we are moving from simply distributing trees to empowering people with the skills to grow and sustain them.”

Conclusion

The past three months have marked an important transition from early drafting to the near completion of the Fruit Tree Education Book. The foundation developed during the earlier phase has now evolved into a structured and field-tested manuscript ready for professional finishing.

With continued support from donors and partners, this educational resource will significantly strengthen the long-term impact of the One Million Tree Project by equipping communities with practical knowledge to plant, grow, and sustain fruit trees.
