At the end of the year, a group of 22 scholarship recipients from rural communities will finish secondary school, and we would like them to be able to travel to the capital cities of their provinces to visit universities and plan their future. This three-day trip will allow them to visit universities in different cities, talk to professionals working in the fields they are considering studying, and enjoy some leisure time with the tutors who have accompanied them throughout the years.
Many students in rural communities do not always have guaranteed opportunities to study. Getting to study at university is almost a dream for the vast majority. At Minkai, we work every day to transform that reality. We support students so that this dream can become a reality. In Argentina, 13 out of every 100 young people complete secondary education on time and in the proper manner. We do not have statistics for rural areas, but we estimate that the situation there is even worse.
Globally, young people face greater difficulties entering the world of work, and in rural areas, this difficulty is compounded by the challenge of accessing university-level education. At Minkai, we promote scholarships for higher education (university) and, therefore, we seek to enable students who are about to graduate to get to know the capital city of the province where they live, participate in visits to universities and training institutes, and talk to professionals from various fields.
We want to familiarise young people with university, its courses and possibilities, and give them a first-hand experience of what it is like. In previous years, this approach has resulted in 63% of our graduates going on to study at university the following year.
