Start Now to Be Ready on Time

By Olimpia Theodoli | Project Manager

Reema and her new jacket!
Reema and her new jacket!

Greetings from Aleppo, Syria.

As summer is heathing up, we feel a bit unseasonale to be talking to you about winter coats. However, we want to start now to be prepared for when the cold arrives.

This last winter has been extremely cold and wet for Aleppo. The rain was welcomed after years of dry winters. Fighting the cold has proven to be much more difficult. With huge conflicts around us and the price of petrol skyrocketing, most families were unable to keep warm. Syria is still in a very vulnerable place as the economy is not picking up for most.

The jackets we were able to deliver to the poorest children in Aleppo protected them from cold, sickness and allowed them to stay warm inside and outside their homes. They are chosen one by one for their quality and materials and are all locally made, thus supporting the local economy.

We have been running "One Child, One Coat" for a few years and we have monitored the impact on the children we support. The quality jackets we distribute are passed on between siblings so that they are not only for one child or one season.

Next winter is only a few months away and we woud love to have a budget that allows us to but jackets now, before prices arise even further, to protect even more children.

With gratitude,

Olimpia and the Team
