Environmental Center & Volunteer Village Update

By Nadine C. Patrice | Executive Director, Operation Green Leaves

Since our last report, students from FIU in Miami have join the project, volunteering their time under the leadership of Architect for Humanity (Miami) and Uplab Inc.

We hope to brake ground on the project by the end of the Year. We have been working on getting the best cost for the material, supplies and labor for the 1st phase. We will provide that information on our next report. As per our last report, the 1st phase includes clearing of the land/putting up the fence and breacking ground on the Volunteer Village.

We have a team going to work on the poject in May of this year. We are hoping to have some student from a few universities volunteer on the project this summer.

We have not reached our financial goal yet for our first phase. Funding has been slow. We are currently working on a campaign to get corporate funding  & support as well.

We own the land, the design and plans are ready, decisions on material and supplies have been made what is lacking is the funding.

If you are reading this report I urge you to support our project and tell a few friends. Restoring Haiti's environment is a key component in the sustainable rebuilding of Haiti.  This center which will be available to all will help us increase our tree planting capacity with our seed bank and nurseries, provide important clases, training and seminars on many urgent invironmental issues such as soil conservation, erosion control, sustainable agro-forestry and much more. We will continue to work closely with our grassroots partners, provides the above mentioned services so they can go back to their communities, implement what they have learn and have a greater positive impact on their environment.

So the only obstacle to a more rapid progress on our project is funding. Please help if you can.
