Oceans Are Life - Protecting Marine Resources

In the first quarter of 2025, Enviro Crime Solutions (ECS) expanded its marine conservation efforts along South Africa's Eastern Cape coastline. Through the deployment of our flagship vessel, Dauntless, and strategic collaborations, we have enhanced marine patrols, supported enforcement within Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), and contributed to the protection of endangered marine species, notably the African penguin.

Operational Highlights

1. Deployment of Dauntless

Our vessel, Dauntless, operating out of Port Elizabeth, has been instrumental in:

• Conducting regular patrols to deter illegal fishing activities.

• Monitoring compliance within MPAs, including the Addo Elephant National Park Marine Protected Area.

• Collecting data on marine biodiversity to inform conservation strategies.

1. Protection of African Penguins

The African penguin population has declined to fewer than 10,000 breeding pairs, with projections indicating potential extinction by 2035 if current trends continue. In response, ECS has:

• Supported the establishment of no-fishing zones around key breeding colonies, including Robben Island and Bird Island.

• Participated in monitoring efforts to assess the effectiveness of these zones.

• Engaged in public awareness campaigns highlighting the species' plight.

2. Community Engagement and Education

ECS has conducted workshops and outreach programs in coastal communities to:
