YOU are empowering YOUR grandmothers to feed their families!
Maria is 67 years old and raising five orphaned grandchildren. The eldest is 14 and the youngest is four years old.
She joined her Granny Group in 2007. Her Granny Group sent three of their members to Trainer of Trainers to learn skills to bring back to their group. Because of this, Maria and the other grandmother in her group were given valuable training in many different areas.
Maria told us that she learned how to improve her farming techniques from her fellow grandmothers. Maria also received a garden hoe to help her tend to her fields. Maria said through a translator, "My grandchildren look healthy because they have enough food."
Thousands of grandmothers like Maria are better able to care for their grandchildren and keep them healthy because of what YOU have given them.

YOU are amazing! Every gift YOU make to help YOUR grandmothers is making a huge difference in their lives and helping their community!
Christina is a grandmother in one of YOUR 91 Granny Groups whose life YOU have changed. She had 12 children, but they all died. Most grandmothers in Uganda rely on their children to care for them in their old age. All alone, Christina had no way to build a new pit latrine when she needed one.
She was forced to use her neighbor’s or dig small ditches in her banana plantation. This wasn’t just inconvenient, it put Christine and all of her neighbors in danger of illness.
Many grandmothers and their orphaned grandchildren get sick and some even die from preventable illnesses because they didn’t have access to a sanitary pit latrine. Only 45% of the people living in rural Uganda have access to basic sanitization according to the World Health Organization.
Unlike many people, Christina was fortunate that her Granny Group selected her to receive one. She told us this simple gift has changed her life. Now she has hope that she will survive.
Last year YOU built a pit latrine for Christine and 34 other grandmothers through YOUR compassion and love!
Thank YOU!

The incredible work YOU are doing for your grandmothers in Uganda has shown this year, helping many families and communities.
Mauda is one of the 7,005 grandmothers YOU are supporting through this project. She is 57 years old and raising two grandchildren on her own. Her grandchildren came to live with her seven years ago after their mother died of HIV/AIDS.
Mauda had a wish to start a goat-rearing project to help support her family. Unfortunately with no bank or prior credit, she didn’t have the ability to start up a business to help keep her family fed and healthy.
But Mauda's Granny Group knew her and believed in her. Her fellow grandmothers knew that her capability and skills as a businesswoman would help her succeed. They knew that she would work hard to pay them back.
Mauda was among the first grannies to receive a loan from the microfinance fund. For Grannies similar to her, a loan amount as small as $20 can flip their whole world upside down, in a good way. You might spend more than $20 on a family pizza night but that same $20 can help one of your grandmothers build a successful business.
For a very small amount of money, Mauda was able to expand her business. Now she can support her grandchildrens' educations, provide food for her family, and have enough money to pay back her loan.
Thanks to YOU, grandmothers like Mauda have improved their lives and the lives of the people in her community. The impact you are making will be felt for generations!

All of your 7,005 grandmothers in Uganda are sending you love and gratitude for the New Year!
YOUR support this year has helped them to build businesses, sheltered them from the elements, helped them find emotional support, and given them new hope that they will overcome poverty.
YOUR grandmothers were poor and elderly. They didn't have any way to make an income and were barely surviving on their own. They relied on their children to care for them in their old age. But after their children died of HIV/AIDS, these women did not hesitate to take in their grandchildren. Even though many of them have gone without food or comfort, they have worked until their hands were numb to give their grandchildren the very best they could.
YOU saw their courage and strength. YOU believed in YOUR grandmothers. Every dollar YOU have given to this project has been used to help these women rebuild their lives and provide for their granchildren.
Because of YOU, the world can see what a grandmother can do.
THANK YOU!
We wish you VERY Happy Holidays and A Wonderful New Year!

During this Holiday Season we want to celebrate the tremendous work you are doing for your grandmothers in Uganda.
Twine is one of the 7,005 grandmothers YOU are supporting through this project. She is 57 years old and raising two grandchildren on her own. Her grandchildren came to live with her four years ago after their mother died of HIV/AIDS.
Twine had a business growing maize but she wasn't making enough money to keep her family fed and healthy. There was no bank she could go to and she had no credit history.
But Twine's Granny Group knew her. Her fellow grandmothers knew she was trustworthy, they believed in her skills as a business woman, and they knew that she would work hard to pay them back.
They voted to give Twine three micro-finance loans for her business. They ranged from 50,000 to 60,000 Ugandan Shillings. (That's only $18--$22 US dollars!)
For less than $60 US Dollars, Twine was able to expand her business. Now she can support her grandchildren's education costs, keep her family fed, and still has enough money to pay back her loan.
Just $60 made all of this possible!
Every Grandmother YOU help improves her life and the lives of the people in her community. The impact you are making will be felt for generations!
Thank YOU for making a difference!
