Your support improved nutrition for children

By Justina O. George | Fundraising Senior Supervisor

For Abel’s mother, seeing her baby sit and play is something she does not take for granted. When Abel was enrolled in our Nutritious Meal Plan Intervention (NUMEPLAN), he was seven months old and weighed just 3.2 kg. His mother remembers how worried she was about him. His bones were visible, and at an age when she expected to see him becoming more active, he was unable to sit properly on his own.

As the months passed, she began to notice changes. Abel became more active. Then he started sitting by himself and playing, these small milestones that meant a great deal to a mother who had watched her child struggle. Sharing his progress with our team, she said, “My baby could not sit properly before, but now he is sitting by himself and he is also playing.”

Abel’s journey is still ongoing, but seeing him become more active is an encouraging sign of the progress his mother had hoped for when they joined the programme.

Since our last update in May, 30 mothers and children have received support through NUMEPLAN, alongside four nutrition sessions for mothers and caregivers. During these sessions, we go beyond distributing nutritious food. We sit with mothers, answer their questions, and talk through practical issues around feeding their children, combining nutritious foods and making healthier choices with the resources available to them.

For us, Abel sitting on his own is more than a developmental milestone. It is a reminder of why consistent nutrition support matters and why reaching a child early can make such a difference. There are still many children whose families are struggling to provide the nutrition they need to grow. We are grateful to everyone who has helped keep NUMEPLAN going and made it possible for mothers like Abel’s to see progress they once worried might never come.
