The COVID-19 pandemic has deepened the struggles of marginalized communities, pushing vulnerable groups like tribal communities and waste pickers in Anekal, Bengaluru, further into poverty and exclusion. They encounter severe prejudice stemming from factors such as caste, migrant status, and the nature of their work. This discrimination results in social exclusion, compounded by challenges such as inadequate access to education, healthcare, and essential amenities like water and electricity.
OBLF's Nurture program provides essential support in education, healthcare, sanitation, and vocational training to severely marginalized communities, including the Hakki Pikki and Iruliga tribes and waste pickers in Bengaluru. Through our WPC Learning Centre, we prepare children for formal schooling. Our sports programs build life skills in youth, while health clinics offer vital care to over 2,000 individuals. Sanitation initiatives improve hygiene.
Current impact includes 100+ children enrolled in educational and sports programs, 2,000+ receiving primary healthcare, and 400+ transitioning to improved sanitation. Potential impact involves fostering community pride, resilience, and environmental stewardship, while empowering individuals with essential life skills, healthcare access, and learning opportunities. This leads to greater self-reliance and capacity-building, supporting financial and social stability within these communities.
