Dear donor,
Thank you so much for your wonderful generosity.
Home is like no other place, so it is no surprise that most of us want to spend our final days at home with the people we love; however only 25% of the population are able to fulfil their final wish. The IHF Nurses for Night Care enables people dying with illnesses other than cancer; such as dementia, heart failure or end stage kidney disease, to receive nursing care at night time in their own homes.
The service provides clinical expertise, compassion, comfort and continuity of care to people in the last few days of their life, whilst giving much needed relief and expert advice to family members in this period of loss and grieve.
The nurse stays in the home throughout the night providing nursing care, practical help and reassurance.
What does your gift mean to families caring for loved ones who don’t have long left? As Nurse Fiona says, ‘more than you can possibly know’...
As Deidre opens her front door and welcomes Nurse Fiona inside, the rush of relief that fills Deidre’s face is striking...
“She was exhausted,” explains Fiona, one of our specialist Nurses for Night Care. “Her husband had dementia and Deidre was his main carer. She was on watch 24/7.”
The night Fiona first cared for Deidre’s husband overnight, was the first time she was able to get a full night of sleep in years. Deidre could rest easy knowing her beloved husband was being cared for by someone she could trust... all thanks to you.
Every hour of care you give is a blessed relief to a family whose loved one is slipping away. In 2019, we provided 2,250 nights of nursing across Ireland, and supported approximately 700 families. Thank you!
