The Irish Hospice Foundation - Nurses for Nightcare
The most critical moment of need. The most understanding expertise in your own home.
76% people want to die at home, but only 26% are able to due to difficulties in meeting their medical needs. We fund night nursing so people can fulfil their final wish to spend their last days in their homes, providing much needed respite for their families. In 2015 we will receive requests for 1890 nights of nursing around Ireland. It will cost us $336 per night ($631,000) (a 21% increase on 2014). We receive no core state funding so are reliant on donations to fund this vital service.
Our objective is to ensure that everyone who wants to die at home throughout Ireland is granted their final wish. The demand for the nurses for night care service is rising continuously (See chart below). Meeting this demand is reliant on voluntary donations we receive from the public.
How can we help?
The Irish Hospice Foundation provides funding for night nursing. This service - Nurses for Night Care - not only provides the necessary assistance to allow people to die in their own homes as they wish (free of charge), but also provides much needed respite and support for families and carers.
Potential Long Term Impact
Since its inception in 2006, the demand for this service has and continues to grow rapidly along with associated costs. This year we expect to receive requests to provide around 1,890 nights of Nurses for Night Care. Whilst this is an ongoing service, we view each person we care for as an individual and hope that we can raise enough money to provide support for everyone who needs our help. Each night of care we fund gives someone the choice and dignity to spend their final hours in their home, surrounded by their loved ones and memories.
