The Primary School supports a binational, bilingual educational environment in which stereotypes are broken down and mutual respect and understanding is taught to 279 Palestinian and Jewish children.
In Israel, Jewish and Arab children grow up in separate worlds with little or no contact with the other side. The school challenges the stereotypes, fear and mistrust embodied in educational segregation. Every day, 279 Jewish and Palestinian children come from 30 villages and towns to learn together in Arabic and Hebrew. They learn each others traditions and culture in an environment of mutual respect and equality. They are democracy in action. "At NSWAS, the world is much larger!"
The Primary School provides K-6 education in all subjects in both Hebrew and Arabic, daily encounters with traditions and history of both peoples, and enriched with special programs: learning laboratories for the many perspectives and experiences of the region: archaeology, music, nature studies, drama therapy. The families see the children successfully and fearlessly learning, playing and respecting one another, breaking down long-held stereotypes
Since its opening 30 years ago, the school educates children who will make a difference in their societies, advocating for equality and respect between Jews and Palestinians.
