Updates from Kogelberg Wildlife Rescue Centre

By Amy Aucamp-Clark | Campaign Manager

Cape Grysbok
Cape Grysbok

In the heart of the Overstrand, a tiny orphaned grysbok arrived at the Kogelberg Biosphere Wildlife Rescue Centre after losing its mother. Weak and in need of urgent care, this little antelope received specialized milk formula and nutrient-rich feeds multiple times a day. Thanks to your support through the Nourish Nature’s Needy campaign, the dedicated team was able to provide the precise nutrition required for its steady recovery. Weeks later, it gained strength, practiced foraging in a safe enclosure, and was successfully released back into the wild — a small but powerful reminder of how your donations directly fuel second chances for Western Cape wildlife.

Since launching this project, the Centre — the only permitted multi-species rescue facility in the region — has continued its vital work rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing indigenous animals affected by veld fires, vehicle collisions, poisoning, snares, and the impacts of a recent severe storm that damaged aviaries and enclosures. Your contributions have helped cover the high costs of specialized food and nutrition for dozens of patients, including birds, small mammals, and other vulnerable species. The team has focused on emergency repairs while maintaining daily feeding schedules and rehabilitation protocols, ensuring animals regain their health and natural behaviors before release. This ongoing nourishment is critical, as proper nutrition underpins every step of healing and successful return to the Overstrand’s ecosystems.
