Children with Nodding Syndrome

Project: Supporting Families of Children suffering from Nodding Syndrome.

Report period: August - October 2016

Activities carried out this quarter.

Activity 1. Sensitization of caregivers and Adolescent girls on Reproductive Health.
Two sensitization sessions were conducted by the Associations members at Okidi parish targeting the caregivers and Adolescent girls suffering from the NS.The discussions looked at hygiene both at the personal level as well as the environment.

A total of 20 (6 caregivers and 14 adolescent girls) attended the first sessions and 21 (8 caregivers and13 girls) attended the second sensitization sessions. The caregivers admitted that it is always difficult for them to talk about sex to their children and think that the conditions of their children do not make them think these children would indulge into sexual behaviors.

Activity 2.Food and nonfood items distribution.

The 11 households being supported by the Association received the bi- monthly distribution. Each of the households received 10kgs of Posho, 5 kgs beans, 5 kgs of sugar, 3 liters cooking oil, 4 bars washing soap, 6 packets salt, and 4kgs of fish.

The bi-monthly distribution was done after the Association members took the caregivers through a session of preparing a balanced meal taking into account the three different categories of Energy giving food, Bodybuilding food, and Protective foods.

The adolescent girls were also supported with sanitary towels/pads which are one essential item that their caregivers are not able to provide them with.

Achievements.

1. 11 households supported with food /nonfood items.
2. 9 girls supported with sanitary towels
3. 2 sensitization sessions conducted
4. 1 training session on nutrition conducted.

Way forwards.

2. Hold discussion sessions with caregivers of Adolescent girls on hygiene,

Conclusion.

We are so thankful to GlobalGiving and the River Fund for this support. We could not have done this without all of your help!
