We are NIJIIRO DIVERSITY, a nonprofit working with the LGBTQ community, their families and allies. We aim to create an inclusive society where future generations can live true to their sexual orientations, gender identities and gender expressions. Our efforts include producing local and nationwide research, community support, and seminars occurring at corporations of various sizes, governmental institutions and schools. Our research visualizes the voices, experiences and needs of the community.
Many LGBTQ people in Japan are still hiding their identities in fear of prejudice and discrimination. The government does not protect LGBTQ rights, and same-sex marriage is illegal. Our recent research gained answers from 2231 people. Our research show that due to COVID-19, LGBTQ people are in higher risk of poverty. The results show LGBTQ people are facing higher risk of harassment at work, bullying, poverty, and mental illness while many are unable to ask for help in fear of discrimination.
Our continuous advocacy has made more corporations and organizations set up LGBTQ policies and LGBTQ groups. Our community support events were attended by over 2000 people in last 5 years. Our research is prominent and valued, cited in government reports, academic, and media articles. We stand together with the community and our work is steadily making Japanese society more inclusive. The community needs us, and we need your support to continue our work.
We aim to eliminate discrimination towards the LGBTQ community. Our work emphasizes that the obstacles facing the community are also connected to the obstacles faced by many other minority groups.
