Year End Review

Patients holding their hygiene kits, wearing masks

This past year our Healthcare Project has been dominated by the COVID pandemic. One year ago, the Nicaraguan government did not acknowledge the existence of COVID. Now COVID vaccinations are widely available. We have been providing masks and hygiene kits to our patients throughout the past year. During our mobile clinic visits to the eleven villages we serve, our doctors continue to give short talks to our patients about how best to protect themselves and their families. But the dangers of COVID in Nicaragua are far from over. In November, our beloved local project Director died of COVID. All our patients are aware of this great loss. Fortunately, our Director’s younger sister has energetically assumed the role of Director, so our program will go on, and our services will continue to improve.

Our doctor and nurse are committed to improving our patient record keeping, and all patient visits are now being entered into an electronic medical records software program. This system allows us to easily see a patient’s medical history and helps us to provide better care. It also provides data that allows us to see trends in physical complaints and illnesses. We hope to use this information to find solutions to chronic problems.

Two thousand twenty-one has been an exceptionally challenging year for our Healthcare Project. We are happy to report that our program is emerging stronger than ever.
