This project will build a school with a technology center to educate over 150 kids per year. It will serve as a model school for the area as the first to provide internet access and computers for the children. The school will be run and maintained by the Azumah Nelson Foundation in Ghana, with plans to add more schools like it in the near future.
The Cosmos Education Complex is a school in Anum Apapam, Ghana. A very poor community of approximately 5,000 people outside of Accra, Ghana. The school is in a state of disrepair and the community lacks the resources to rebuild the school to allow them to expand educational opportunities to more children in the community. Having visited the village once already, I can tell you they are the most welcoming, friendly and energetic people in the world who want nothing more than a chance.
The funding for this project will provide 6 new classrooms for the school, a library and a technology center. Project money will also be used to refurbish the existing structure. This will allow Cosmos to expand their existing enrollment of around 150 per year to over 500 per year by bringing more kids into the formal education system. The technology center and library will allow these children to explore the world via the internet, as many of them have never even seen a computer before.
Our partner, the Azumah Nelson Foundation, is a nationally recognized foundation in Ghana that will run the school once completed. We plan to use this as a model school for the community and build and run many more like it to benefit hundreds and thousands children in Anum Apapam and surrounding villages. Providing technology to these students can hasten the education process by opening up new avenues of learning.
