The project goal is to enable survival and self-sufficiency of displaced people due to the conflict in Myanmar. This is achieved through the provision of humanitarian relief in the following areas: - Shelter and non-food items - Food, health & hygiene items - Medical support - Livelihood grants - Education support
The project was established to meet the need of Myanmar nationals displaced from their homes fleeing the violence following the military coup in Myanmar in February 2021. There is an unprecedented political, socioeconomic, human rights and humanitarian crisis across Myanmar and conflict across the country has resulted in thousands of people fleeing their homes and villages, without any preparation, often relying solely on external support and in need of humanitarian support.
The New Dawn project was established to meet those urgent humanitarian needs. Our approach has been to equip and support the host communities through partnership with local committees, providing essential items aimed at providing for immediate needs and a means of early recovery through livelihood support. We are also providing grants and support to local schools to enable children to be provided with appropriate resources to attend school during this crisis period.
The long term impact will be to ensure the survival of those fleeing conflict, to recover from the initial shock and trauma of their displacement through the provision of urgent practical needs, and to settle in a new area with a means of income, until it is safe to return home.
