The project goal is to enable survival and self-sufficiency of displaced people due to the conflict in Myanmar. This is achieved through the provision of humanitarian relief in the following areas: - Shelter and non-food items - Food, health & hygiene items - Medical support - Livelihood grants - Education support
The project was established to meet the need of Myanmar nationals displaced from their homes fleeing the violence following the military coup in Myanmar in February 2021. There is an unprecedented political, human rights and humanitarian crisis across Myanmar and the conflict has resulted in thousands of people fleeing their homes and villages, with just the clothes on their backs. The crisis has been exacerbated by Cyclone Mocha which devastated coastal and inland communities in May 2023.
The New Dawn project was established to meet those urgent humanitarian needs. Our approach has been to equip and support host communities through partnership with local committees, providing essential items aimed at providing for immediate needs and a means of early recovery through livelihood support. We also provide grants and support to local schools to enable children to be provided with resources to attend school. We have also responded from our emergency funding following Cyclone Mocha.
The long term impact will be to ensure the survival of those fleeing conflict, to recover from the initial shock and trauma of their displacement through the provision of urgent practical needs, and to settle in a new area with a means of income, until it is safe to return home.
