PHC provides temporary and permanent housing to people who have experienced homelessness and are living with mental illness. We pride ourselves in providing warm and comforting spaces for our residents! To do so, we need to purchase 20 new mattresses and box springs for 4 of our properties and 5 new bed-frames. Sleep is such a vital part of healing and we want our residents to experience deep and restorative rest!
On any given night in the US there are over half a million people experiencing homelessness and 25% are suffering from severe and persistent mental illness. Many rely on high-cost public services for their survival, and without support or options, end up cycling through hospital emergency rooms, detox centers, shelters & jails. Plymouth Healing Communities offers a place of rest for people living with mental illness and experiencing homelessness by offering community and a home!
Residents at PHC receive temporary respite housing and permanent affordable housing. Our housing is linked with supportive clinical services through local medical providers and also companionship. Companions are individuals who dedicate a year to walk alongside our residents. They share meals together, go on outings, and provide support outside the clinical realm. We place a special focus on creating spaces that are warm, restorative and inviting - ensuring that people are truly welcomed home.
After 15 years in operation, our model has provided remarkable results with over 95% of residents exiting to permanent housing, and over 80% experiencing a reduction in hospitalization 5 years post exit. This intentional community is unique and offers an alternative path out of homelessness for those individuals that often fall through the cracks. Additionally, our permanent housing has a 95% retention rate!
