Women and children are hard- hit in Nepal earthquake. Tewa is supporting community based women's organisations working in 14 severely affected earthquake districts to rebuild communities and lives, enabling grantees to use their local skills, knowledge in supporting pregnant, postnatal, physically challenged, indigenous, marginalized and most vulnerable communities. Peace and philanthropy centres as a pilot initiative, with psycho social counselling, barefoot volunteers/grantees will be mobilized.
Tewa's partners are on the ground in 65 out of 75 districts in Nepal out of which 14 districts are critically affected. Our grantees in the affected districts have lost their homes, family members, livestock and their working space. They want to use their local knowledge, skills and experiences to support the most vulnerable and marginalised groups, pregnant, postnatal, physically challenged, indigenous and single women, to rebuild lives and communities.
We will support our grantee partners, grassroot level women's organisations in the affected districts to rebuild lives and communities. They are resilient, they only need some moral support,we will establish peace and philanthropy centres, train local youth in psycho social counselling so they give continuous support to the communities to deal with trauma, train barefoot volunteers and grantees in well being and holistic development, who will stay and engage with communities.
We will revisit our partners and their communities, listen to them and build on their strengths. The peace and philanthropy centres, psycho social counselling for a long term and barefoot volunteer mobilization will help heal and nurture the communities.Tying it with local livelihood options and a gender lens in our work of recovery will sustain communities that are very fragile and give them strength. Our project will cover 25 communities, having about 100 households so 12,500 people will benefit.
