We need your help! Late in the evening on November 3, Western Nepal was struck by a disastrous 6.4 magnitude earthquake which caused significant structural damage and tremendous human suffering. The communities most affected by this earthquake are located in hard-to-reach areas and desperately need help. Over 150 people have been reported dead, with hundreds more injured and thousands displaced.
One of the districts affected was Rukum West, where we are currently implementing our program. While our staff on the ground, including our NGO partners, are all thankfully safe, two One Heart-supported health facilities in Rukum West have completely collapsed (Ghetma Health Post in Aathbiskot Municipality and Chinabagar Health Post in Sanibheri Rural Municipality).
Since the needs of pregnant women, recently delivered mothers and newborn infants are often forgotten during emergency situations, we will be setting up medical tents with essential medical equipment and supplies so that mothers and infants can get the care they need until the health posts are rebuilt. We plan to distribute warm clothing, food, and blankets to help the families in need. In the next few months, we are also planning to help the local government rebuild these two health facilities.
This project will allow us to reach underserved communities in West Rukum affected by this earthquake and rebuild necessary health facilities and services for these communities.
