Nepal Earthquake Medical Aid

In late April, 2015 a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal causing widespread devastation in the region with 8 million people affected. The earthquake hit 50 miles from the capital city of Kathmandu. On May 12, Nepal was hit by a second 7.3 magnitude earthquake, just 50 miles from Mount Everest. The death toll has now reached nearly 9,000 people with 17,866 reported injured and nearly 400 still missing. As Nepal enters monsoon season, it is even more critical that we provide support to their fragile healthcare system, whose infrastructure has been hit hard by the earthquakes.
Since April, MAP has provided medicines and supplies to partners on the ground in Nepal valued at over $22 million with an additional container in process. The medicines from MAP will treat nearly 300,000 people in need throughout Nepal.

Over 300 MAP Medical Mission Packs full of antibiotics,
oral rehydration salts, first aid items and other essential
items during times of relief have been provided to
partners in Nepal, each pack treats 700 people. Of
those MAP Medical Mission Packs, 195 will arrive in
Nepal in late July, this is in partnership with Convoy of
Hope, Stop Hunger Now and Cross International.
Multiple container “Shipments of Hope” are currently
being prepared, a 40ft container full of relief supplies
worth $15 million that will treat 125,000 people will
reach Nepal in August.

In addition to our larger relief shipments, many
individuals and organizations have taken MAP Medical
Mission Packs with them on their medical missions to
provide Nepal Relief.
MAP will continue to provide assistance to those
injured and left homeless in the wake of the April 25th
earthquake. So far, more than $17 million in assistance
is in process to the areas hit hardest. The supplies sent
include antibiotics, oral rehydration salts and first-aid
items that will treat an estimated 95,000 people.

On May 12th, Nepal was hit by another earthquake just 50 miles from Mount Everest.

The Nepalese people are shaken and in need of medical care more urgently than ever before. .

The Facts:

MAP's Response:

o    30 MAP Medical Mission Packs, worth $330,000 arrived in Nepal with ACTS World Relief and will be used to treat 6,000+ people.

o    50 MAP RX Medical Mission Packs, worth $400,000 are currently being airlifted in to treat nearly 15,000 people.

o    38 MAP Medical Mission packs, worth $83,600 are being airlifted in with MedShare to treat 14,000 people.

o    6 IEHK (Interagency Emergency Health Kit) have reached Nepal for International Medical Corps to use on the ground. They will treat 60,000 people for 90 days.

o    6 pallets of oral rehydration salts are being airlifted in to Nepal in order to combat dehydration.

o    Multiple container shipments are being prepared with antibiotics and other essential relief items for long term recovery and will leave MAP Brunswick shortly.

o    MAP's current medicines on the ground are being used at Sheer Adventist Hospital and Mobile Medical Clinics near the epicenter.
