Since January, through our “Challenge Fund for Emergency Response”, NEF has provided ten local Armenian organizations with small grants to supportthe needs of people who were forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh in September 2023.
So far, the projects have benefited over 370 displaced people with crucialassistance such as:
*Davit’s Story:
After being forcibly displaced from his hometown in Nagorno-Karabakh,Davit settled in Armenia without any family. Now living alone in an unfamiliar place, he misses his community and the business he built there.
Davit is skilled in woodcraft and plastering, but because he had to leave his home quickly, he was forced to leave behind his tools and equipment.
Local community members told him about Equal Rights, Equal Opportunities (EREO), a local partner organization of NEF’s Challenge Fund for Emergency Response who is supporting displaced people with disabilities obtain skills and materials for economic sustainability in their new community.
Thanks to your support of our Challenge Fund, NEF and EREO provided Davit with the necessary equipment and materials to restart his business.By the end of the project, Davit held a small exhibition of his handicrafts in Armenia.
Though Davit is still homesick, there is hope that the support provided through this initiative will offer him and other displaced people a fresh start, allowing them to earn a living doing the work they choose.
