Thanks to the help of our sponsors through GlobalGiving we have made significant progress! Through donated airline miles and car rental credits we were able to travel to Pine Ridge Reservation and oversee the training and development of the small business entrepreneurship. The Pine Ridge collection is now in pre-production and the designs are almost finalized. At the moment the project has five permanent artisans who have already started to reach out and network with other potential collaborators all with the common goal to better their community.
Sandra, a local teacher, has agreed to take the time to train artisans after showing us her phenomenal beadwork. In addition, our first partnering artisan Lana, has begun working on an original design of a sage braid bracelet. Originally a student at Wounded Knee High School, Lana was forced to drop out many years ago in order to raise her 4 children. She now lives in a trailer with her sister her boyfriend and her young kids, where she seeks to obtain her GED and utilize her jewelry making skills with AGF. With your help our Pine Ridge Reservation Campaign will eventually sustainably employ over 50 people in need of jobs, just like Lana, so lets keep the up the momentum! Finally, don’t forget to like us on Facebook and remember to take advantage of Bonus Day on October 17th when all your donations will be matched 30%!
