Narrow The Gap Round 2 - The final results!

Because of the support from our friends like you, we were able to hold a successful Narrow the Gap Community Day on 23rd September 2018 and award grants to three winning local community projects to make positive changes in South Vietnam.

More than 290 participants including non-profits, skilled volunteers and the business community, media representatives came to network, share, learn and vote at Community Day.

Thanks to our financial and in-kind sponsors who helped make the day a success. Participants enjoyed a Lucky Draw with raffle prizes from local businesses. National and local media came to report on the event, including two national television channels, HTV and VTV (See the VTV video here).

We kicked off the event with a Community Day showcase, complete with stalls for all organizations involved from non-profit and business sectors. Participants played traditional games and took an up-close look at the work of the finalists. The second half of Community Day was dedicated to the pitches and the votes. All six finalists took to the stage one by one to pitch their project to the audience of voters.

The vote was cast:

50% Grant Allocation Committee (made up of skilled volunteers with community project experience)
20% Online voting before the event
30% Community vote from the participants present at the even

Three of the six finalists were voted as the winners of the Narrow The Gap Community Fund and each has been awarded 150 million VND, to carry out their impacting work in the community.

The three winning projects were:

Medical Insurance for HIV Patients
Hospital Theater
Gieo Duyen Bridges

Although there could only be three winners, all six finalists had a chance to create awareness about their project and connect with potential partnerships and resource opportunities.

There were special moments on the day such as: one of the finalists which did not win a grant pitched the project of seeking to expand their organization to involve IT training and resources for ethnic Cham women starting small businesses had a spontaneous offer of donated computers from a member of the audience.

All six finalists were awarded certificates and the three winners were presented an award check to signify their success at winning the grant.

Thanks for your continued connection with and support of LIN Center and Narrow The Gap! Together we can empower local non-profits to improve the quality of life for the most vulnerable in their communities.

Projects Funded in Round II 2017

Thank you to everyone you helped fund and support Narrow The Gap Round II 2017, we are so grateful for your support and what it helped to do!

Here are some of the success stories from Narrow The Gap Round II 2017 that you helped to fund. We are about to launch Round II 2018 and hope you will continue to support us.

PROJECT SUCCESS

“Clean water for 50 poor households in District 8, HCMC” -

NPO responsible: FFSC

Running from November 2017 to June 2018, the Clean Water project was awarded VND118,207,000 by Narrow The Gap Round II 2017, and in just one year achieved their goals!

As well as successfully developing a water management system which is now run by the local community, they have introduced a water system for the community of Phát Huy Bình An Center/ Binh An Development Center including instilation of 50 500 liter water tanks and 50 20 liter water containers which provide water for 50 disadvantaged households.

PROJECT SUCCESS

"Psychological support for patients in Diagnostic and Orthopedic Trauma"

NPO responsible: Social Working Groups (Happier)

NPO Social Working Groups (Happier) were awarded VND150,000,000 by Narrow The Gap Round II 2017 and managed to reach their goals within a year!

Starting to implement their project shortly after being awarded funds by Narrow The Gap, Happier have organized 24 skills training courses for volunteers which included activities for children and parents in the local community.

Working specifically in the area of disease management, the project supported 429 children and their parents in fun, educational activities.

PROJECT SUCCESS

“Inclusive support for children with community-based development disorders at preschool age in Duc Linh District, Binh Thuan Province”

NPO responsible: Thien Chi Center for Community Development

The Thien Chi Center for Community development was awarded VND150,000,000 in Narrow The Gap Round II 2017 and implemented their project from October 2017 until September 2018.

Almost completing their project they have implemented three training courses for teachers, developed and posted communications on developmental disorders to 20 kindergartens, opened training workshops for parents and build a treatment room for patients. They expect to complete the project on schedule, including full operation of the treatment room.

Narrow The Gap Round II 2018 is about to be launched and we hope you will continue to support the work that LIN Center for Community Development does with local NPOs helping to solve local community problems.

Thanks to your support - Four projects have been funded!

Clean water is a basic human right.

Dear our wonderful supporters

Thank you to everyone who has funded, shared, and gotten involved with Narrow The Gap - Creating shared value for 17 SDGs – we are always so grateful for your support!

The first Pitching event of Narrow the Gap Community Program was on 8 April with the participation of nearly 100 people, including public audience, six NPOs, and 16 members of the evaluation committee of the project. Six projects participated in the 1st round 2018 to pitch their initiatives, and four of them were chosen. Here are four projects funded by Narrow the Gap, Round 1:

"Safe Going To School" Project from Frogsleap foundation is targeted at elementary school children in Duc My commune, Can Long district, Tra Vinh province; people on Con Ho, Tra Vinh province. Through the activities of educational programs "prevention of drowning" and "prevention of child sexual abuse"; Give 100 life jackets to elementary schools. Build 2 water filters for Con Ho residents. Building a bridge for Con Ho people, the Frogsleap Foundation believes that students are trained on drowning prevention and child sexual abuse prevention, environmental awareness among students. The people have clean water that can be used in daily activities, people have safe bridge to go.
The project "Empowering Ethnic Women Rights in Water Supply Project in Mekong Delta Region through Gender Promote and Raise Gender Awareness and Leadership Skills",by Rural Research and Development Center of An Giang University targets women and children under 18 years old in An Cu, An Hao Commune, Tinh Bien District, An Giang Province. The objective of this project is to (1) disseminate research findings on women's participation and empowerment in water management in the Mekong Delta to many stakeholders (local people, government, and NGOs); (2) Set up four committees called "Women, Water Initiatives Leadership (WWIL)" in four project areas, local women will manage the common well; (3) Empower women and girls through workshops / forums on gender issues in water management; and (4) Collaborate in researching and expanding the network to raise funds to share about gender equality in natural resource management, particularly in water management in the Mekong region.
The project "Building Habits of Using Water Resources and Clean Hands for Students" by the Innovation and Community Connectivity Center” targets 673 students and 59 managers and teachers in Vung Liem district, Vinh Long province. Through training activities on water saving and clean hand washing procedures; Construction of handwash; Build images, messages on the use of water savings, clean hands. The project would like to bring two gutters of handwash with the communication/instruction message to ensure 70% of hand washing properly; 80% use water properly when washing hands.
The project of "Building psychological counseling center of Binh Trieu" of Friends for StreetChildren. The direct beneficiary community of the project consists of 400 primary school students aged 7-16 at the Binh Trieu school, more than 50 students are receiving formal study scholarships and 27 are living in Binh Trieu Shelter in Binh Trieu school. Indirect community are family of students and teachers, staff of the center. The main activities of the project include (1) Surveying and consulting room decoration; (2) Purchasing Materials and decorating the room; (3) Developing working Schedule, allocating personnel, and work agreements; (4) Training for teachers and staff; (5) Soft launching, official project implementation for the 2018-2019 school year. Expected results from the project activities are a psychological consultation room (30m2 area); A team of psychologists who consulted and supervised the results; Behavior change, and positive improvement for the children participating in the consultation.

We are indeed proud of this accomplishment yet we still have two more rounds to go together! At the moment, we still need to raise $2708 of $5000 that will allow us to fund and make sure the NPOs have the knowledge and resources they need to stay afloat and bring changes to many people lives in Vietnam.

Early this month, we are very excited to get second round off the ground. We are therefore determined to meet and hopefully even exceed our goal, but we really can’t do it without you. Please consider making a contribution and pass our campaign on to as many people as you can and help us get the rest of the way there.

Your donation really do change thousand lives in Vietnam no matter big or small. Whether you contribute $10 or $100, your support will directly and indirectly benefits 1,000+ people in Vietnam.
