Since we moved our campus from Accra to Manya Jorpanya in Shai Hills in the Greater Accra Region in September 2018, Palm Institute has relied on a diesel-powered generator as its main source for generating electricity. While classes were in session, over $1,000 a month was being spent to power the generator to facilitate teaching, learning and all administrative work.
In January 2020, Palm Institute installed 22 solar panels, eight batteries and three inverters to generate enough electricity to power Palm Institute. The system will generate over 5,475 kWh of electricity a year giving Palm Institute a clean, efficient, reliable and sustainable source of electricity.
The solar installation brings significant financial relief and is contributing greatly towards efficient day-to-day operations. This marks the beginning of Palm Institute’s desire to create and model sustainable and renewable energy in Ghana and decrease the negative impact of diesel emissions on our environment.
