Summary

In rural Kilifi County, Kenya, Watha families face preventable illness due to unsafe water and limited hygiene access. In Lusaka, Zambia, under-resourced schools struggle to sustain literacy gains for vulnerable children. This project expands clean water education and strengthens early reading access for vulnerable youth, ensuring healthier households, safer learning spaces, and greater long-term opportunity for children and families.

Challenge

In Kilifi County, Kenya, remote Watha villages need sustained WASH education to prevent waterborne illness. In 2025, 556 people were trained across 6 villages, but distance and transport costs limit consistent follow-up. In Lusaka, Zambia, 1,680 pupils rely on MYEP literacy sessions, yet damaged facilities, limited books, and transport barriers threaten program continuity in already under-resourced schools.

Solution

This project expands access to clean water education in Watha communities so families can consistently practice safe hygiene and reduce illness. In Zambia, it strengthens literacy by improving learning spaces and ensuring children have reliable access to books and reading sessions. Building on proven impact, your support will help us reach new households, strengthen safe hygiene behaviors, and increase access to books and structured reading

Long-Term Impact

Strengthened hygiene practices improve household health, food security, and resilience in Watha communities. In Zambia, MYEP held 42 reading sessions in 2025, increasing attendance by 25%, literacy access builds foundational reading skills that influence graduation rates and long-term earning potential. With your support, these locally led programs will be able to scale impact beyond initial reach, transforming short-term intervention into sustainable community systems.
