Heavy monsoon rains and rains triggered by Cyclone Komen during the month of July have caused flooding, flash floods and landslides in several parts of Myanmar. Latest government figures indicate more than 200,000 people are affected and at least 46 killed across 4 states. It is expected that these figures will continue to increase as news comes in and further rain is expected in some areas over the coming days
Save the Children’s Response:
We have reached 1,353 people including 278 children so far.
We distributed household and hygiene kits to 153 people in 38 households in Sidoktaya.
We distributed 1,000 bottled water, 600ft tarpaulin 1,000 aqua tabs, 250 soap bars in Rakhine to 1200 people.
We have planned to provide initial emergency assistance, emergency WASH support, rehabilitation of schools and livelihoods in Magway.
As we begin to phase out our flood relieft response in Myanmar, we would like to thank all of our donors and supporters that made the work mentioned above possible. Thank you for being a partner for children.
Save the Children invests in childhood – every day, in times of crisis and for our future. In the United States and around the world, we give children a healthy start, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm. By transforming children's lives now, we change the course of their future and ours.
